Is depression getting you down?
Two Doves Therapy with Martin Watson. Here to help with the challenging symptoms of depression.

Help is Here
“I am here to offer support and help put the wind back in your sails”
If you are feeling alone, stuck or smothered, I am here to offer support / treatment, help put the wind back in your sails and help you start living life to the full. Depression is not something easily faced alone and can really bring you down.
I have years of experience in helping others with the suffocating effects of depression and am here to help you too.
Depression is a very common symptom and one that many of us face at some point in our lives. It is a condition that can affect you mildly, ‘I’m feeling burnt out and low’ to something far less manageable, ‘I’m feeling down all the time.’
Depression can be triggered by traumatic events or appear seemingly for no reason, often involving a combination of real life social and biological events. It can create feelings that leave you feeling lonely, scared, irritable or worthless.
Sadly, many people struggle with depression on their own, for years before feeling able to ask for professional help. If you think you may be experiencing depression you have taken the first step by getting here and reading this.
The next step to change and a different experience is to speak about it, and I am here to listen. Psychotherapy can effectively be used to treat depression, but only you can take the next step and get in touch.

Types of Depression
I commonly treat.
Distressing events in life can really take their toll. Relationship issues, divorce, redundancy, retirement, death or illness in the family or a range of other life events can really affect our lives and leave us feeling low and depressed. You are not alone in struggling with how you feel at these difficult times and have been brave enough to come here, read this page and think about yourself. This may be the turning point but only you can take the next step by getting in touch. I am here to help and have many years’ experience of helping others with life struggles such as these.
The loss of someone close to you can lead to major emotional changes and increase the chances of depression. Trying to manage the powerful mix of feelings following the loss of someone important can be overwhelming. It is not an easy subject to talk about or deal with internally.
You might be feeling angry, guilty, empty, very sad or all of these at different times. There are no rules on how you are supposed to feel, act or behave but there are ways to help make life easier as you cope with your loss. I am here to listen and try to help you find a way forward through the shadows and towards a lighter future.
We all have an inner child within us, and traumatic experiences suffered back then can really affect your adult life now. From difficult parental relationships, neglect, abandonment, emotional or physical abuse such early life experiences can be traumatising and become ‘stuck’ within us.
Unless you have been taught how to cope or given the chance to speak about childhood difficulties the feelings such difficulties caused then can often return and cause depression in the adult now. It is normal for children to blame themselves. How else can we make sense of our carer’s behaviour, surely it is our fault? Well that is not true, but the feelings these early dynamics create can feel very real.
You might be struggling with feelings of guilt, anger, anxiety, self-loathing, low self-esteem or depression that might be linked to such early life experiences. It is important to know that the behaviour of your carers or elders was not your fault. I am here to hear your thoughts and help you think about making peace with yourself about how life can change in the future.
You may have experienced circumstances in life that have left you feeling angry. Unresolved feelings such as childhood trauma, bereavement and current stressful life events such as the Covid pandemic can cause old feelings to reappear and leave you feeling in despair and really struggling alone. Circumstances like these are often closely linked to depression and anger and if you have not felt able or given a chance to express these powerful feelings, they can build like the steam in a pressure cooker and feel unbearable. At times you might find yourself having violent urges, panic attacks and fear losing control. I understand how difficult these feelings are to bear and trying to bear them alone is even harder.
You have been very brave in getting to my website and allowing yourself the chance to make a change. The next step may seem hard, but it is easier than you think and certainly easier than suffering alone. I am interested in you and hearing about the life you want to live.

Other symptoms of depression - did you know?
For some people drinking can become a serious problem and causes much more harm than illegal drugs. Although drinking alcohol is generally seen as something that makes people feel good, heavy drinking can bring on depression (cited. NHS Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership website)
Often eating disorders, with a focus on binge eating or compulsive eating are linked to emotional eating. Food can be a ‘go to’ reaction when we are feeling low, upset or angry and used as a way to self-medicate.
Being depressed can leave you feeling low in energy, which might put you off being more active? Regular exercise can boost your mood if you have depression (cited NHS website)
