Psychotherapy is a safe, confidential space to talk with a trained professional about what you’re going through and how you’re feeling. Together, we explore your thoughts, emotions, and patterns, and gently make sense of what’s happening in your life. Over time, therapy can help you:
· Understand yourself more deeply
· Feel less overwhelmed or stuck
· Develop new ways of coping and responding
· Improve your relationships and quality of life
It’s a collaborative process: we work at your pace, and you never have to talk about anything you’re not ready for.
Therapy is for anyone who wants support, not just for extreme situations or crises. Many adults come to therapy when they notice things like:
· Feeling anxious, low, or on edge more often than usual
· Struggling to cope with stress, work, relationships, or big life changes
· Feeling stuck in unhelpful patterns or repeating the same difficulties
· Finding it hard to switch off, sleep, or enjoy things they used to
· Simply wanting to understand themselves better and grow
If you’re wondering whether therapy might help, that in itself is often a sign it could be useful. You don’t need to wait until things feel unbearable.
Psychotherapy can support adults with a wide range of concerns, including:
· Anxiety, panic, worry, and overthinking
· Low mood, depression, and loss of motivation
· Stress and burnout, including work-related stress
· Trauma, difficult past experiences, or abuse
· Grief, loss, and major life transitions
· Relationship difficulties, family problems, or loneliness
· Self-esteem, confidence, and identity issues
You don’t need a formal diagnosis to come to therapy. We can talk about whatever feels important to you.
At MIP we offer Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy.
· CBT
– Focuses on how your thoughts, feelings and behaviours interact
– Structured, goal-oriented and usually shorter-term
– Uses practical tools and strategies to manage specific problems (e.g. anxiety, low mood, stress)
· Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
– Explores the deeper roots of your difficulties, including past experiences and relationships
– Often longer-term and more open-ended
– Focuses on self-understanding, recurring patterns, and how past and present are connected
In your initial appointment, we can help you decide which approach (or combination) is the best fit for you.
This varies from person to person, depending on what you’d like support with and what feels manageable for you.
· Many adults start with weekly sessions to build momentum and a sense of safety
· Some people work short-term (for example 10-20 sessions) on a specific issue
· Others find longer-term therapy helpful for deeper patterns or longstanding difficulties
We’ll discuss this together and review as we go. You’re always welcome to talk about how therapy is feeling and whether the pace and frequency are right for you.
Yes, therapy is confidential. This means that what you share in sessions is not discussed with anyone else, except in very limited circumstances, or without your knowledge.
The main exceptions are:
· If there is a serious and immediate risk of harm to you or someone else
· If we are legally required to share information (for example, in certain court or safeguarding situations) but we would never divulge anything without you knowing.
· With a supervisor. This is to ensure your therapist is giving you the best possible care and whilst this is a legal requirement in the UK in many other parts of the world this is not the case. We are happy to answer any questions you may have about supervision and confidentiality.
Your therapist will follow the ethical and legal standards of the country or region where you live or where they practise. If a confidentiality situation ever arose, we would aim to discuss it with you first. We will also explain confidentiality clearly at the start, so you know exactly where you stand.
The relationship you have with your therapist is one of the most important parts of therapy.
When choosing a therapist, you might consider:
· Do I feel reasonably comfortable and understood by this person?
· Do they have experience with the kinds of issues I’m dealing with?
· Do I feel able to be honest with them, even if I feel unsure at first?
· Are they properly qualified and professionally registered?
It’s absolutely okay to try a first session and then decide whether it feels like a good fit. You are allowed to look for someone who feels like the right fit for you.
The first session is about getting to know you and helping you feel as comfortable as possible. We will usually:
· Talk about what has brought you to therapy now
· Ask some gentle questions about your background, current situation, and what you’d like to change
· Explain how therapy works and answer any questions you have
· Begin to think together about what might be most helpful for you
There is no pressure to share everything at once. You are in control of what you talk about, and it’s completely okay to feel nervous or unsure at the start.
How do I choose the right therapist for me?· Fees vary depending on:
· The country or region you’re in
· The type and length of sessions.
You may be able to use private health insurance, depending on your policy and local systems. If you’re unsure, you can contact your insurer confidentially to ask what’s covered. We’re also happy to discuss options with you so you can make an informed decision.
We’ll always be clear and transparent about costs before you commit.
For many adults, yes. Online therapy can be just as effective as in-person sessions, and some people find it more convenient and less intimidating.
Benefits of online therapy include:
· Access from home or a private space, without travelling
· Greater flexibility with appointments, especially if you have a busy schedule or live in a different city or country
· The option to continue therapy even when you’re travelling or moving
What matters most is that you feel safe, heard, and able to talk openly. We can discuss your options and work out what is best for you.
