International Mother’s Day 2026:
On International Mother’s Day, we at MiP are taking time acknowledge and reflect upon those who nurture, care and support those who encourage and hold us through every stage of life. Beyond the symbolism of flowers and cards, we also acknowledge that this day has a deeper meaning. It reminds us of the importance of recognising a mother’s mental and emotional wellbeing. A way of acknowledging how hard it is to be a mum.
At MIP Therapy, we believe that taking time to honour and support mothers isn’t simply a kind gesture, it’s a way of recognising the wider implications of how nurturing individuals helps facilitate healthier families, communities and societies.
💜 The Emotional Load of Motherhood
Motherhood often comes with high external (society) and internal expectations and assumptions. Whilst managing these pressures mum’s also have to balance parenting, relationships, work, and self‑care. Many mothers feel the pressure to ‘do it right’ and ‘be a good mum’. A difficult and stressful task which – alongside raising their children – can leave little time to take care of themselves. Including their own emotional wellbeing and health. We think that acknowledging these invisible mental stresses are the first step toward change. From our experiences when mums feel seen, valued, supported and heard, their mental resilience improves.
Why does this matter?
Well, if mum is less stressed, anxious, depressed or down everyone around them feels the benefit. For mums that sense of appreciation has real psychological impacts such as enhancing self‑esteem and reinforcing connections with loved ones.
🌷 Why Emotional Recognition Matters
Alongside tons of research, we at MiP understand that positive affirmation and support play a crucial role in maternal wellbeing. So, in that way Mother’s Day serves us all as a reminder of, not only, what mothers do but for who they are: individuals with complex emotions, aspirations, and needs too. Mums are human after all!!
By taking time to think, listen, share, and appreciate we can offer mums the support they need and help strengthen family bonds. Furthermore, recognition of these pressures can contribute to a more open conversation about maternal mental health beyond one day of the year.
